Cusco was integrated into the viceregal territory, and with it the entire geography of the Spanish Empire. However, after independence, the Peruvian national imagination required finding new dogmas of assimilation in an already different space, defined precisely by that break with the recent past. There the need for other assumptions that would merge the Andes with the rest of the country became evident. Hence the need to reconstruct the borders, no longer from a colonial perspective of the Viceroyalty of Peru but from a Peruvian republican "identity."
